Elisabeth Strauß

was born in Saarbrücken and is a stage and costume designer.

She studied fashion design at the Fachhochschule für Mode in Düsseldorf and worked as a costume assistant at the Theater an der Ruhr with Klaus Arzberger from 1984 to 1991. She has been a freelance costume designer since 1987 and has worked at the Saarländisches Staatstheater, Theater Oberhausen, Schauspiel Essen, Schauspiel Dortmund, Theater Freiburg, Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Schauspielhaus Bochum and Theater in der Josefstadt, Vienna, among others. From the beginning of the 2003/2004 to 2015/16 season, she was engaged as costume designer and artistic collaborator at the Schlosstheater Moers in collaboration with Ulrich Greb. Since 2012 she has worked continuously with Roberto Ciulli at the Theater an der Ruhr as a costume designer and is involved in the artistic process.
In addition to her work at the theatre, in 1998 she developed the exhibition concept and organisation for the exhibition: "Betrifft Aktion 3 - Deutsche verwerten jüdische Nachbarn" Dokumente zur Arisierung in the Stadtmuseum in Düsseldorf. For ENTRY 2006, she took over the artistic direction for the fashion performance "Second Skin" at the Zeche Zollverein in Essen for the curator Ellen Lupton from the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York.

She was the curator of the exhibition man muß sich an morgen erinnern - 40 Jahre Theater an der Ruhr at the Theatermuseum Düsseldorf, which opened in April 2022. She was also responsible for the artistic direction and organisation of the exhibition and edited the exhibition catalogue.
