Helmut Schäfer
is a dramaturge and member of the artistic program team. He was born in Cologne and studied philosophy and sociology.
He has held various teaching positions. From 1972, he worked as a dramaturge at theaters in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne and Stuttgart. He met Roberto Ciulli in the mid-70s. As a long-standing partner of Roberto Ciulli, he has also decisively shaped the profile of THEATER AN DER RUHR as a place for dealing with political, economic and social issues. He has translated and adapted many plays. Translations: Euripides - The Cyclops, The Bacchae; Sophocles - Electra, King Oidipus, Oidipus from Colonnus, Antigone. Plays: “Alkestis”, “The Decameron”, “Medea”, “Veracruz”. Publication of various essays and lectures.
