As early as 2006, a cooperation between the Theater an der Ruhr and the NRW KULTURsekretariat gave rise to this annual round of musical journeys to the musical cultures of the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and West Africa.

Since then, the soundscapes have become an integral part of the world scene in the Ruhr region. In 2018, the Theater im Pumpenhaus Münster joined the cooperation as a committed partner.
