Eines langen Tages Reise in die Nacht
Eugene O´Neill
A day of a family in the United States of America in 1912: the father, an actor, his wife and sons Jamie and Edmund. The family suffers from the father's unimaginable avarice, to which even his closest relatives fall victim. The three men are alcoholics, the mother a morphine addict, their shared world a hell where everyone is interdependent, escape seems impossible. O'Neill's play is strongly autobiographical, noting the experiences of his childhood and youth and describing a reality dominated by intoxication and violence. And yet he is also able to suggest the bitter comedy of this situation, which springs from the tragedy of what is happening. Nothing, Beckett said, is more comic than misfortune.
