Oma Monika – was war?

Balthasar is eight years old and often stays with his grandma when his parents are still working. Monika is a lovely grandma and likes to do crossword puzzles with her grandson, because she can't think of all the words straight away. When Balthasar has to stay with his grandma for a while, he notices that Monika not only forgets words but also memories and even mixes up close relatives. The bright boy realises that while this is unsettling, it is also a situation they can both play with - and he eventually learns more about his grandma's life. Milan Gather's play deals with the phenomenon of incipient senile dementia with empathy and humour. (Thomas Irmer)
