I‘m Your Man

Drama, concert and performance.

"An evening about toxic masculinity and gender justice, about power and visibility. It's cleverly done. Matthias Flake and Clara Schwinning play with role models and pop music stereotypes in a stunningly funny way. And because they make grandiose music on top of that, the cheers hardly find an end after a good hour. Original format." (Donaukurier)

Matthias Flake is the Pianoman. He reviews 50 years of pop music history: Stones, Kraftwerk, Bowie, Grönemeyer, Billy Joel... cause we're all in the mood for a melody, and you got us feeling alright... Suddenly a stranger appears. Or a stranger? Clara Schwinning plays an androgynous science fiction character: The man who fell to Earth. As such, she begins to appropriate and transform the Pianoman's song repertoire. With unheard-of musical skills, wit and elegance. Men's songs sung by a woman. She penetrates the musical cosmos of Pianoman, his emotional world, his pain, his longings and sadnesses, she observes him, analyses him and reinvents his songs: Sex Bomb, Eye of the Tiger, Planes in the Belly - more beautiful, smarter, better. At the same time, she traces the abysses and sexist neuroses of a musical male world in outrageously skilful parodies: China Girl, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Ti Amo... She reflects, sings, philosophises and performs. One pop classic follows the next. The piano man is silenced for the time being. No singing! Just play the piano! A musical exchange develops in which the androgynous being from the future ultimately keeps the upper hand: Gender is a fluid concept! Play with it! Embrace the unknown! In the course of the evening it becomes clear: The man who fell to Earth is a work of art, a utopia. He - or she - embodies everything that the pianoman would perhaps like to be. Man and woman at the same time, she - or he - appears as a musical harbinger of a world in which role attributions and gender identification are no longer important.
