Alexander Klessinger
is a freelance theatre director based in Hamburg.
After his first degree in German studies, sociology and political science in Munich and internships at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Berliner Schaubühne, Klessinger started studying theatre directing at the Hamburg Theatre Academy in 2019.
His work was already shown at various festivals during his studies. At the Hamburg DRAMA Festival for Young Drama, he directed ‘Melanie heißt schwarze Tinte’ by Sarah Dulgeris. His play development ‘Der Wille zum Glück’ was shown at the Stimme X Festival for Contemporary Music Theatre 2022 and the Thalia Theater Hamburg invited his production ‘AUFKLÄRUNGSMASCHINE’ to the Lessingtage 2023. This was followed by his graduate production ‘Das große Heft’ by Ágota Kristóf at the Thalia Theatre and a play development that was shown as a guest performance as part of the European Capital of Culture 2024 theatre festival in Bad Ischl. At the Junges Schauspielhaus Hamburg, he staged the play ‘Ferdinand, der Stier’ based on Munro Leaf, which he wrote himself.
‘Oedipus’ is his first work at the Theater an der Ruhr.
