Das Schweigen der Wälder
vom Theaterkollektiv KGI
What is hidden in the thicket of the German forest? The forest appears as a projection surface for identitarian longings and collective fantasies: from romantic forest solitude to national myths of origin and the dark secrets of its history. In 360-degree panoramas, the forest is constantly transformed, revealing its role as a mirror of German self-images. The experience combines documentary material with AI-generated worlds to create an unsettling exploration of what lies hidden in the ‘German forest’.
The interdisciplinary Büro für nicht übertragbare Angelegenheiten KGI was founded in 2013 by graduates of Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, the directing department of the HfS Ernst-Busch Berlin and the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. Today, the core group consists of Maria Vogt, Dominik Meder and Simon Kubisch. They developed this work together with scenographer and 3D designer Markus Wagner. A production by KGI and the Theater an der Ruhr as part of ‘Theatre of Expanded Realities’.
The Theatre of Augmented Realities is a research and development project by Theater an der Ruhr in collaboration with the Academy for Theatre and Digitality and the MIREVI Lab at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, funded as part of NEUE WEGE by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
